The European Parliament’s election of the President of the European Commission

In the course of 2014 following the May 2014 European Parliament elections, four of the European Union's most senior posts will be decided:

+ President of the European Commission
+ President of the European Council
+ President of the European Parliament
+ High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

In addition, a new Secretary General of NATO would be appointed in 2014, a post usually occupied by a European statesman. There will also be a new President of the Eurogroup.

The European Parliament Group Leaders and the President of the European Parliament, in the framework of the Conference of Presidents, met European Council President Herman Van Rompuy on the 10 April 2014 to the discuss practical arrangements for electing the next President of the European Commission.
