President José Manuel Barroso's gave a strong message of condemnation after the shooting at the Jewish museum in Brussels on the 24 May 2014.

On the 1 June 2014 the AFP news agency reported that a French citizen had been arrested. Mehdi Nemmouche, 29, was arrested at a train station in Marseille on the 30 May 2014.
