Statement by the Spokesperson on the twin-terror attack in Mogadishu, Somalia

On the 25 January 2017, twin-terror attacks at and near the Dayah Hotel in Mogadishu left many casualties. The attack took place when Somalia's electoral process is nearing its completion with the Presidential elections due to take place within weeks.

This is first and foremost an attack against the Somali people who for several decades have suffered from insecurity and disarray. For the European Union, the continued violence emphasised the important role of newly elected members of parliament and the next government to focus on Somalia's future for the benefit of the Somali population at large.
