Report of a meeting in the fringes of the European Council, Brussels, 19-20 March 2015 by key political leaders to discuss the Greece debt crisis. The Presidents of the European Council, the European Commission and the Eurogroup, met with Greek Prime Minister Tsipras, French President Hollande and German Chancellor Merkel. EurActiv reported that 'the meeting resulted in Greece agreeing to send a new list of reforms that will be implemented over the coming months, in exchange for receiving the next tranche of EU bailout money'. In its Main Focus for the 20 March 2015 Euro|Topics wrote 'After meeting with top EU representatives on Thursday, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has committed himself to introducing concrete reform measures in the coming days. Once this happens Athens is to receive further financial aid. That does nothing to change the fact that the Eurozone is dysfunctional, commentators criticise, and warn that Greece's fate must not be left in the hands of Russia and China'. The BBC and EUObserver reported on the 20 March 2015 that the European Commission President Juncker had pledged €2bn to Greece to help deal with its humanitarian crisis. |
