On the 23 of March, the High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini made a state,ment about the situation on Syria. For her, the resumption of talks between the Syrian parties in Geneva on the 3rd week of March 2017 represented an essential step on the road to finding a political solution to the conflict in Syria. She also stated that the ceasefire agreement signed in Astana must be fully implemented, the guarantors need to ensure that it would be respected through the trilateral monitoring mechanism. All parties and actors had to protect the civilian population and allowed full and unhindered humanitarian access to those in need in all areas. She also insured that the European Union remained firmly committed to support the efforts of the UN Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura in the new round of intra-Syrian talks in Geneva to facilitate negotiations between the parties. |
