The credit rating agency Standard & Poor’s downgraded France’s credit rating by one notch to AA on the 8 November 2013.

S&P said it was cutting the rating from the previous AA+ because government reforms would not raise medium term prospects and because lower economic growth was constraining the government's ability to consolidate public finances.

This move was seen as a blow to French President François Hollande’s socialist-led government as it tried to turn the economy around.
