Features to mark the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre in July 1995, in which Bosnian Serb forces killed around 8,000 Muslim men and boys. The United Nations' Security Council voted on 8 July 2015 on a resolution condemning the 1995 'genocide' and calling for 'reconciliation'. It was not approved due to Russia's veto, sparking criticism from the West. The European Parliament also regretted the lack of consensus. Thousands of people gathered in Srebrenica on the 11 July 2015 to mark the 20th anniversary of the worst mass killing in Europe since World War II. Dignitaries from across the globe were in attendance at the memorial service, including Prime Minister of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic. Certian section of the crowds at the event protested at the presence of Mr Vucic. |
