Speech: Data protection reform: restoring trust and building the digital single market

Text of a speech by Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the European Commission, EU Commissioner for Justice. Speech for the 4th Annual European Data Protection Conference, Brussels, 17 September 2013.

In the conference, industrialists and diplomats also accused MEPs of rushing through data protection laws that they say would boost their electoral chances more than Europe’s economies, ahead of 2014 European elections.
