Bulgaria's prime minister Boyko Borissov stated in the parliament in January 2016 that he wished for the South Stream project - which aimed to bring Russian gas across the Black Sea to the European Union before being informally shelved - to be transformed into 'Bulgarian Stream', with 100% Bulgarian ownership over the pipes. Analysts considered that it was unlikely that Russia would accept such project, given the falling oil prices and the decreasing gas demand from Europe. The 'Bulgarian Stream' project would have Russia selling its gas at the Bulgarian border, rather than owning the pipes as previously planned. |
