A court of Luxembourg decided on 29 June 2016 to give suspended sentences and fines to the PWC employees Antoine Deltour and Raphael Halet for leaking thousands of documents that exposed the huge tax breaks obtained by major international companies. Edouard Perrin, a French journalist who first exposed the deals, was acquitted. These deals had been signed at a time when Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission, was prime minister. On the 2 August 2016 prosecutors in Luxembourg said they would appeal the verdicts as they wanted harsher sentences handed down to the two former employees. In December 2016 Antoine Deltour and Raphael Halet returned to the Luxembourg Court to appeal their convictions. Protests took place in Luxembourg on the 12 December 2016 in their support. A court in Luxembourg decided on 16 March 2017 to give reduced sentences on appeal to the two LuxLeaks whistleblowers. |
