Scottish independence: William Hague joins Scots-EU debate

United Kingdom Foreign Secretary William Hague and Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander launched on the 17 January 2014 the latest in a series of Scotland analysis papers, covering the EU and international aspects of Scottish independence.

Mr Hague said that an independent Scottish state might not be able to negotiate the same terms of EU membership as the UK.
