Report and analysis of a speech 'The importance of Scotland to the UK', given by UK Prime Minister David Cameron on the 7 February 2014. The Prime Minister called on people across the UK to speak out in favour of the UK and against Scottish independence. Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland's deputy first minister, locked horns with Labour and the Liberal Democrats in March 2014 by insisting they would leave Scotland weaker if voters reject independence in September 2014. A poll published by The Guardian on the 3 March 2014 suggested that the 'yes' vote on Scottish independence was declining, and that the Scots were more anxious than the English and Welsh about the effect of independence on the United Kingdom as a whole. |
