Media reports suggested in September 2015 that Russia's Gazprom had sent to the European Commission proposals regarding an out-of-court settlement of an antitrust case against the company.

After more than two years of investigation, antitrust regulators in the European Union charged the gas giant in April 2015 with abusing its dominant position in Poland, Hungary, and six other countries in Eastern Europe, to overcharge by up to 40%.
