Russia's head of FSB security service Alexander Bortnikov confirmed on 17 November 2015 that an act of terror had brought down the Russian A321 airliner in Egypt in the previous month, killing all 224 people on board. Mr Bortnikov said during a meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin that 'traces of foreign explosives' had been found on debris from the Airbus plane. Mr Putin vowed to 'find and punish' those behind the attack over the Sinai peninsula. A branch of so-called Islamic State had said it downed the plane. Mr Bortnikov said a bomb had been planted on board the Metrojet plane, equivalent to up to 1kg of TNT. |
