The European Parliament's plenary session adopted on 27 April 2017 a non-binding resolution urging the European Commission to propose rules obliging all players in the textile and clothing industry supply chain to respect the labour and human rights of their workers. The Parliament's development committee had first adopted the resolution on 21 March.

The text also advocates introducing EU tariff preferences and labels for sustainably-produced textiles.
