Deutsche Welle published in January 2015 an article on the risks refugees accepted by trying to escape to Germany from conflict areas to rebuild their lives.

While refugee numbers reached an all-time high in 2014, Bavaria's CSU sought to further limit the number of immigrants coming to Germany under these conditions.

Germany registered in 2014 and 2015 a number of demonstrations organised by PEGIDA, an anti-Islamisation movement which heated up the debate in the country around immigration.
