The European Parliament's economic and monetary affairs committee held a debate on 23 September 2015 with the European Central Bank's president Mario Draghi. ECB president told committee members that, despite the signs of resilience, the macroeconomic environment of the Eurozone had become more challenging. He reassured MEPs that the central bank would not 'hesitate to act if some of the downward risks weaken the inflation outlook over the mid-term more fundamentally than we project at present'. Mr Draghi also hinted at the possibility of adjusting the size, composition and duration of the ECB’s asset purchase programme, to add monetary policy impetus if necessary. |
