High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini, together with Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn and Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides, paid an official visit to Turkey on 8 and 9 December 2014. According to EurActiv, the EU intended to call for more intense cooperation between the two sides in the fight against Islamic State militants and other militant groups and in the efforts to cut off their funding and halt the flow of foreign fighters. The visit would also be used to ask Turkey to join Western sanctions against Russia or, at least, not to take advantage from it by exporting affected products to Russia. |
