On 3 December 2013 the Council of the European Union adopted the regulation establishing 'ERASMUS +', the EU Programme for Education, Training, Youth and Sport for the period 2014-2020.

ERASMUS + brings together in a single programme activities previously covered by a number of separate programmes and it also covers activities in the new area of European competence, sport. The new programme has a total budget of about €14.7bn - which represents an increase of 40% compared to the previous programme.
