Press Release: Statement by the Spokesperson of High Representative Catherine Ashton on renewed plans for Israeli settlements in and around East Jerusalem

EU High Representative Catherine Ashton on 31 May 2013 reiterated the EU's opposition to settlements in and around East Jerusalem and the West Bank. She emphasised that settlements are illegal under international law and threaten to make a two-state solution impossible. The EU repeatedly urged the Government of Israel to end all settlement activities in the West Bank, including in East Jerusalem, in line with its obligations under the Roadmap.
