Press Release: Singapore: The Commission to Request a Court of Justice Opinion on the trade deal

The European Commission decided on 30 October 2014 to request an opinion of the European Court of Justice on the competence to sign and ratify a trade agreement with Singapore.

The aim of the Commission request was to bring clarity which provisions of the Free Trade Agreement with Singapore fell within the EU's exclusive or shared competence and which remained in the Member States' remit and required approval by national instances.
