On 17 March 2016, the European Parliament's civil liberties committee held a debate on the 'Privacy Shield', a new mechanism for transferring personal data between the European Union and the United States which replaces the 'Safe Harbour' mechanism. The debate included contributions from Max Schrems, an Austrian citizen whose court case against Facebook led to Safe Harbour's downfall, the US lead negotiator, the EU Data Protection Supervisor, representatives from the Article 29 Working Party, the European Commission, among others. |
