An inquiry into Scotland’s economic future following the independence referendum in 2014 was launched on 11 December 2013 by the Scottish Parliament’s Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee. The inquiry, which was expected to last around four months, would focus on economic issues at the core of the referendum debate including monetary and fiscal policy, trade and investment issues and welfare and equality. With evidence sessions anticipated to start in February 2014, the Committee invited senior UK and Scottish Government Ministers and representatives of both campaign groups to outline their vision for Scotland’s economy before taking evidence from a number of other witnesses from the worlds of business and the public sector. The Committee said that it would also seek the views of experts from academia. |
