The European Commission presented a report on the 18 June 2014 on the progress made to implement its Regulatory Fitness and Performance (REFIT) programme, which is at the heart of the Commission's smart regulation efforts. In addition, the Commission announced it was stepping up the momentum of smart regulation by presenting a number of new initiatives for simplification, withdrawals of pending proposals and repeals of existing legislation. The first edition of an annual scoreboard assessed the progress made in all policy areas and for each individual initiative, including on the side of Council and Parliament. Amongst the legislative proposals being withdrawn were related to maternity leave for pregnant workers, investor compensation schemes, and a 12-year old plan to set up a compensation fund for the victims of oil pollution damage. |
