Press Release: Permanent relocation scheme and list of safe countries of origin: state of play

The European Parliament's civil liberties committee held a debate on 1 December 2015 with the European Commission, the Council of the European Union, the European Asylum Support Office (EASO) and Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) regarding two legislative proposals to tackle the migration and refugee crisis - one on a permanent mechanism for relocation of people in need of international protection among member states under extreme pressure and another on an common list of safe countries of origin.

The European Commission launched the package of proposals on 9 September 2015.
