Press Release: Paving the way for European energy security

Preview and reports of a European Commission conference 'Paving the way for a European Energy Security Strategy' held in Brussels on the 21 May 2014.

Representatives from Member States and third countries as well as energy companies, regulators, business and consumer associations, think-tanks discussed ways to reduce the EU’s energy dependence.

European Commission President José Manuel Barroso provided orientations on a 'European Energy Security Strategy', which the European Commission intended to present ahead of the European Council of 26-27 June 2014. EU Energy Commissioner Günther H. Oettinger focused on how to strengthen Europe's security of supply and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk presented a proposal for an Energy Union for Europe.
