Press Release: Open internet and end of roaming charges: MEPs confirm deal with council

The European Parliament's industry committee approved on 15 July 2015 the informal deal to ban roaming fees for making phone calls, sending text messages or using mobile internet while in another country of the European Union from June 2017.

The agreement was reached between the EP and the Council of the European Union (CEU) on 30 June and also includes guarantees that all internet traffic is treated equally, without discrimination.

The deal still needed to be endorsed by the EP in plenary and the CEU before being officially implemented.
