Statistics revealed by Germany's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on 3 August 2015 showed a surge of immigration in the country. According to the collected data, more than 20% of Germany’s population had a migrant background.

Germany was home to 10.9 million immigrants in 2014, an increase of more than 10% since 2011. While migrants from the European Union were leading the list, there was also a substantial rise in the number of extra-EU migrants.
