The European Parliament's plenary session considered on 3 February 2016 that the European Commission should not authorize the use of glyphosate-tolerant GM soybeans in food and feed. MEPs noted that glyphosate, a herbicide, had been classified as 'probably carcinogenic' by the World Health Organisation (WHO), and that GMOs were being authorized in the European Union without the support of member states. The EP had rejected a separate draft law in October 2015 that would enable any member state to restrict or prohibit the sale and use of EU-approved GMO food or feed on its territory. |
