On 17 June 2016, the Council of the European Union adopted a regulation and a directive enacting a one-year delay to new securities market rules.

The one-year postponement of transposition and application deadlines became necessary because essential data infrastructures would not be in place on time. It affected the provision of services for investments in financial instruments and the operation of regulated financial markets.

The postponement was agreed with the European Parliament on 2 May 2016.
