A joint debate by the European Parliament's committees for Tax Rulings and for Economic and Monetary Affairs was held on 17 September 2015 with the presence of European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker, as well as of Commissioners Pierre Moscovici and Margrethe Vestager. Mr Juncker declared that 'the current system of corporate tax rules is unfit for purpose and unjust. Some companies are losing out, whereas others win by hiding behind a variety of national rules'. The EC showed its support to a common consolidated corporate tax base, but highlighted that this required a step-by-step approach. |
