Press Release: Inland waterway vessels: Council adopts directive on uniform technical requirements

On 16 June 2016 the Council of the European Union formally adopted a revised directive which set out how technical requirements for inland waterway vessels were applied in Europe. The new rules were intended to improve legal certainty, avoid differing safety levels and reduce administrative burdens for the sector. They also helped to avoid distorting competition and made it easier and quicker to introduce new innovations across Europe.
