The European Parliament's foreign affairs committee held on 16 February 2016 a debate with Iran's foreign affairs minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Members of the committee highlighted that while there was room to develop the relations between Iran and the European Union following the nuclear deal, this could not be achieved at the expense of human rights. Ways to end violence in Syria and Yemen, and Iran's relations with Saudi Arabia were also among the topics discussed.
