The European Parliament's environment committee showed its strong opposition to the European Commission's proposal to enable any member state to restrict or prohibit the use of EU-approved GMO food or feed on its territory, during a debate on 15 July 2015. Members of the committee were concerned that the draft rules did not include an impact assessment, that member state measures might not be compatible with single market or WTO rules and that the proposal might prove unworkable. The EC presented this proposal in April 2015. The committee and the parliament's plenary were scheduled to vote on it in October 2015. |
