The European Commission unveiled on 28 January 2015 a set of proposals aimed at tackling tax avoidance. The decision was a result of the understanding that there was a need to align the tax laws in all member states of the European Union in order to fight aggressive tax practices by large companies efficiently and effectively. The Anti Tax Avoidance Package calls on Member States to take a stronger and more coordinated stance against companies that seek to avoid paying their fair share of tax and to implement the international standards against base erosion and profit shifting. The announcement took place a day after the signing of the Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement (MCAA) by 31 countries of the OECD, considered to be an important milestone towards implementation of the OECD/G20 BEPS Project. |
