While the International Trade Committee was given the task of drafting the general European Parliament's recommendations concerning the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), 13 other committees also sought to contribute with their opinions in order to build a common position. This press release presented the draft opinions of some of these committees. MEPs were due to debate and vote on this unified position before Summer 2015. Committee votes were expected in late May 2015 and plenary votes in June 2015. VoteWatchEurope published an analysis 'What will EU parliamentarians vote on TTIP?' on the 16 April 2015. VoteWatchEurope had mapped MEP's positions on TTIP and EU-US relations based on their previous voting record. It concluded that, at this stage in April 2015, a majority of MEPs were in favour of TTIP as a whole and a softened investor-to-state mechanism (ISDS) was likely to pass by a narrow majority. |
