The European Parliament's plenary session defended in a resolution on 20 January 2016 the creation of a trust fund for Colombia, to help victims of its 50-year internal conflict seeking truth, justice, and reparations and prosecute war criminals.

Members of the chamber praised the political effort, realism and perseverance shown by both the government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), in ending the conflict and urged the European Union to support their peace-building efforts.

The United Nations Security Council approved on 25 January a monitoring mission of the ceasefire between the two sides of the conflict.
