On the 19 February 2014, in Brussels, the European Union reviewed its relations with Zimbabwe and took a further step towards normalisation of those relations.

The EU's suspension of sanctions on top Zimbabwean officials, except Mr Mugabe and his wife, met with an angry response from the ruling ZANU-PF party in Zimbabwe. The opposition said the Mugabe travel ban was 'probably justified'.
