In reaction to the continuing deterioration of the situation in Syria, the Council of the European Union on the 29 July 2014 approved the increase of humanitarian and development assistance. The Council backed the proposal of the European Commission to increase humanitarian assistance by 50 million €, bringing the total humanitarian support for Syria to 150 million € in 2014. This is to address the most pressing needs of the most vulnerable persons inside Syria and in the neighbour countries. The additional support is notably aimed at helping health care services, providing medicines and scaling up water supply. |
