On 31 May 2016, the Council of the European Union adopted its conclusions on the role of Europeana for the digital access, visibility and use of European cultural heritage, addressing its financing, governance, quality of available data and user-friendliness. The conclusions also aimed to reinforce Europeana as a cultural and digital innovation project, increasing member states' involvement and ownership and securing its sustainable financing.
