Press Release: Council approves environmental impact assessment directive

On 14 April 2014, at the Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting that took place in Luxembourg, the Council of the European Union adopted a directive amending directive 2011/92/EU on the assessment of the effects of certain public and private projects on the environment.

The directive aimed at ensuring a high level of protection of the environment and human health through the establishment of common minimum requirements for the assessment of the effects of certain public and private projects on the environment. The amendments adapt the current directive to the policy, legal and technical contexts, which evolved considerably.
