On 4 February 2015 the European Commission (EC) launched work on the Energy Union, aiming at the completion of single energy market and reforming how Europe produces, transports and consumes energy. The Energy Union with a Forward-looking Climate Change Policy was one of the key political priorities of the EC for the period 2014-2019. After more than 60 years from the founding of the Coal and Steel Community, the Commission drew a plan for reorganising European energy policies and kicked off work for European Energy Union. While the EC prepared its proposal for an Energy Union, a group of environmental organisations sent it a letter calling for the electrification of transports to become a priority in the plan. |
