The European Parliament approved on 09 July 2015 a resolution regarding the European Union's circular economy strategy.

MEPs called on the European Commission to table new legislation on the subject by the end of 2015. The EC had submitted a proposal in 2014, which it withdrew some months later.

According to the text, a more efficient use of natural resources would boost the EU's GDP and job creation. Therefore, there would be a need to create binding waste-reduction targets, to revamp ecodesign laws and to uncouple growth from resource use.
