Polish President Andrzej Duda signed the controversial bill regarding amendments to the Constitutional Tribunal on the 28 December 2015.

This happened despite calls from the European Commission days earlier to delay the approval until the impact of the changes were fully assessed.

Poland’s opposition Civic Platform party said on the 29 December 2015 that it would file an appeal to the Constitutional Tribunal, asking it to rule on whether the new law itself violated the constitution.
