The European Parliament's plenary session voted on 26 October 2016 on its negotiating position as regards the European Union's budget for 2017. The Parliament decided to endorse the position approved by its budgets committee reversing the cuts proposed by the Council of the European Union to the draft budget. The plenary vote marked the start of three weeks of negotiations between the Parliament and the Council under the conciliation procedure. The Council adopted its position in September 2016 and on 19 October 2016 called on the Parliament to learn from past experience. Immediately, following the vote in the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union informed their co-legislators that it could not accept all its amendments for the 2017 EU budget. |
