News sources reported on the 18 August 2016 that The District Prosecutor’s Office in the Polish city of Katowice had begun investigating the head of Poland's Constitutional Tribunal, Andrzej Rzepliński on the accusation of exceeding his powers.

This development renewed concerns that the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party in Poland was trying to reduce the powers of the Constitutional Court with which it was in long-term dispute.
