The European Parliament's plenary session held a debate on 13 September 2016 regarding recent political developments in Poland and how they affect fundamental rights in the country.

While some MEPs criticised Polish authorities for controversial reforms affecting the country's constitutional tribunal, others insisted on respecting decisions taken by the democratically-elected government.

A non-binding resolution was voted on the following day.

On 24 September, thousands of protesters rallied against Poland's government decisions, seen as 'undermining' the rule of law in the country.
