On the 7 November 2016, in the first of its kind, Plaid Cymru launched a cross-parliamentary campaign taking the Welsh and Westminster governments to task over their position on Brexit. A unique and original approach to opposition which would span across Westminster and Cardiff Bay, Plaid Cymru’s cross-parliamentary Brexit campaign would simultaneously hold both the Welsh and UK Governments to account as the country continued on the path towards the UK’s exit from the EU. Plaid Cymru called on the 8 November 2016 for a Welsh EU Continuity Bill, to enshrine all existing EU regulations in Welsh law. The Bill would ensure that EU regulations continue to apply in Wales once Brexit is finalised and prevent devolved powers from falling into the hands of the Westminster Government. Plaid Cymru would launch a consultation in early 2017 on how EU regulations are applied in each of the main industry sectors in Wales. This will provide information about how existing EU regulations could be improved and strengthened when powers return to Wales. |
