The European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker defended in September 2014 his decision to shift the health technology and pharmaceutical policy services back to the more lobby-friendly internal market directorate.

Such move had been criticised by MEPs and NGOs. For its side, the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) denied it had influenced Mr Juncker's decision.
