Germany's newspaper Tagesspiegel reported in January 2016 that PEGIDA leaders were planning to hold demonstrations in 14 different countries on 6 Februray 2016. This was seen as a move to widen the reach of the xenophobic movement, which had until then limited its activity within Germany's borders. Several anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim groups staged demonstrations across Europe on the 6 February 2016, including in the Netherlands, France the Czech Republic, Ireland, Poland and the United Kingdom. Wroclaw had been due to become the second Polish city to hold a PEGIDA march, but the demonstration was cancelled because PEGIDA was apparently too German for Polish nationalists. |
